Reggie Lawson MLB Draft Bio

Along with other top high school draft prospects Reggie Lawson was one of five Californians to be named to the prestegious 2016 Maxpreps Preseason All-American Team as he was selected as a utility player. Lawson has truly shown his athletic prowess on the mound and at the plate. He hit .461 with four home runs and 26 runs batted in as a junior at Victor Valley High School while going 6-4 on the mound with 67 strikeouts in 53 innings and an ERA of 2.25. Reggie Lawson was named named to the first team Underclass All-American squad and earned a spot on the Perfect Game All-American Classic summer team.

Reggie Lawson Scouting Report

Lawson made the start for the West Team at the Perfect Game All-American Classic in San Diego and pitched a scoreless first inning while hitting 93 mph and retired the side on just 10 pitches . He then headed to Japan where he was a part of USA Baseball 18U National Team that won the gold medal for the third year in a row. While improving his hitting and offensive production from the year before his numbers on the mound were actually down from his sensational sophomore season that saw him go 8-3 with a 1.33 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 68.2 innings while walking just 12. While having his strong bat as an asset, it's as a pitcher that has the most upside as this 6'4" right-hander who reportedly didn't take pitching seriously until his freshman year in high school throws a fastball from 89-93 with a curveball around 74-77 mph.

He spent most of of last summer at the Perfect Game National Showcase in Florida and reportedly topped out at 93 mph.  His hard-running, two seam fastball typically sits at 91-93 mph and his breaking balls at 74 mph. He has been diligently developing his changeup. He has earned multiple All-Tournament honors playing travel ball with CBA Marucci and is committed to Arizona State.

#MLBDraft Prospect Reggie Lawson is a scouts dream.

Sun Devil Head Coach Tracy Smith in a press release after signing day back in March said, "We think we have one of the most accomplished and celebrated right-handed pitchers in the country in Reggie" before commenting about his playing for Team USA and pitching at the Perfect Game All-America Game and Area Code Games. "We feel he has a chance to be one of the best to ever come out of Arizona State". Now that's some really bold statements considering the big league pitcher Mike Leake is their most famous right-handed pitching alum.  The draft expectation for him is FIRST ROUND of the 2016 MLB Draft.

Baseball America

When tall, projectable, athletic -- and somewhat raw -- high school pitchers hit the showcase circuit, scouts like to see signs of development and improvement. Lawson passed that test with flying colors, leaving teams eager to see what the SoCal right-hander brings to the table in the spring.

Keeps getting better each time we see him, Easy 90-93 mph at PG National up to 94 mph at PG AA
