Nathan Kirby Scouting Report:
Kirby burst onto the scene in 2014 after working out of the Cavaliers bullpen in 2013. He started 18 games and 15 of which were quality starts. He quickly became Virginia’s #1 starter and was rewarded for his efforts by being named the Co-Pitcher of the Year in the ACC in 2014. Virginia had three guys get drafted in the first two rounds in the 2014 draft who garnered a ton of attention throughout the season (Nick Howard, Mike Papi and Derek Fisher). His 18K- complete game no-hitter vs. Pittsburgh pushed him into the national spotlight. His Virginia Cavaliers would ultimately finish second in the College World Series.

Kirby’s fastball sits between 90-94 and he has shown the ability to command it in all areas of the the strike zone. He is one of the most polished pitching products available in the 2015 mlb draft and should go within the top three picks. His secondary pitches are a 85-87 slider and and an change-up. His three pitch arsenal is arguably the best in all of college and when he is on, he is tough to beat. Scouts love his competitive nature about him and his ability challenge hitters. The summer of 2014 was a productive one for him as he spent several months improving his conditioning and overall strength. As a result, he gained 20 pounds making him sit around the 185-190 weight range.

Kirby was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 40th pick in the 2015 MLB Draft. Nathan Kirby signed on June 21 for 1.25 million. Originally he agreed to a 1.545 million dollar singing bonus but it was lowered due to an undisclosed medical reason.
