Dansby Swanson Scouting Report:
Swanson worked through multiple injuries during his freshman campaign limiting him to just 16 at-bats. The 2014 season was a great showcase for him as he helped lead the Commodores to their first ever College World Series title. He delivered stellar defense and timely hitting which resulted in him receiving the Most Outstanding Player honors in Omaha after the College World Series. He continued his impressive season with a solid showing during the summer with the U.S. Collegiate National Team. He is an all-around impressive talent.

The “Mansby” played shortstop in high school but when he began with the Commodores he moved to second base to create a solid mid-infielder with Vince Conde. Conde was drafted by the Yankees last year and Swanson has subsequently taken over at shortstop in the 2015. With soft hands and a strong arm, he profiles as a All-Star caliber mid-infielder. Depending on the team that drafts him, he may end up moving back to second base. Swanson has a great feel for hitting, shows gap-to-gap power with a clean line-drive stroke. True to form, he clobbered a 27 doubles last season which tied him for the NCAA D1 lead. As his body fills out some of those doubles will start to head over the fence. A 10/15 homer/stolen base season is not out of the question for him. Scouts adore his gritty, competitive mentality. He is a high character guy that will be drafted quickly in the first round. He absolutely loves to win and offers tremendous physical abilities that jump out as you watch him play. Dansby Swanson was selected first overall in the 2015 MLB Draft. He signed his professional contract on June 21 for a $6.8 million signing bonus, second highest in Diamondbacks’ history.
