Pittsburgh Pirates Farm System

The Pittsburgh Pirates have steadily improved both at the major league level and in their farm systems over the last few years. Gregory Polanco, Andrew McCutchen, Gerrit Cole, Starling Marte, Neil Walker & Pedro Alvarez are many of the players on the Pirates roster that came up through their system. 2015 could be another year for the Pirates influx of talent. RHP Jameson Taillon has recovered from Tommy John surgery and is expected to progress to the majors this year. A tall order for him but the Pirates brass have full faith in his ability. He won’t be expected to get into actual live games until May. Tyler Glasnow is a tall individual standing in at 6’8″, Glasnow is a physically imposing pitcher who at 19 years old is set to be challenged at Double-A next year. What’s holding him back is his command, which is something to be expected from such a tall pitcher. Repeat delivery = his fast track to the bigs. Glasnow is by far the best pitcher in the pirates farm system. Josh Bell switched positions and made a few tweaks in his swings so expect to see a resurgence from him. Catcher Reese McGuire is a rising prospect but is still very young. He can absolutely hit but he is several years away from making an impact.
